Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes has attracted attention from La Liga giants Barcelona, according to reports.
The starlet became the first player born this millennium to play in the Premier League when he came on as a substitute in our 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace to finish the 2016-17 season back in May.
Gomes is an England under-18 international who remains in our reserve team this season. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if he got a run out in the first team in the EFL Cup at some point this season.
However, the Sun are claiming that we are ‘sweating’ over the possibility of Barcelona poaching one of our youth products as Angel Gomes is still yet to put pen to paper over a new contract at Old jTrafford.
He only turned 17 last month and it does cause some concern that he has not signed a professional deal yet. This would allow the teenage forward to join Barcelona for a nominal fee should the club and player agree terms.
Of course, the Sun is hardly a reliable source, but a player with the potential that Gomes has could certainly welcome interest from a club of Barcelona’s size. They have as much pulling power as Real Madrid as the two most attractive clubs in the world.
We shall have to wait over the coming days, weeks or even months to see if there is any further development on this story.
