ARSENE WENGER insists he believed Alexandre Lacazette would not be fit to face Manchester United on Saturday.
Arsenal’s star striker was ruled out of the Premier League showdown with a groin problem picked up in midweek.
But Lacazette made a remarkably quick recovery to not only feature but start and finish Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to United.
The France international scored and impressed during the game at the Emirates, although his inclusion was not ignored by Mourinho.
The United boss has since suggested Wenger was not telling the truth about his team news.
And Mourinho has also questioned Pep Guardiola’s claim that David Silva is a doubt for Sunday’s Manchester derby.
“What did you want me to do, leave him at home?” Arsene Wenger
Wenger, though, has shut down Mourinho’s complaints ahead of Arsenal’s Europa League clash with BATE Borisov.
“I thought he wouldn’t play,” Wenger said.
“In the end he could, what did you want me to do, leave him at home?
“He had a test on Friday. Even when he went to the game we didn’t know if he would play.”
