Police in Jinja have arrested eight people for inciting violence.
They were arrested following violence that erupted in Jinja moments after High court adjourned a case filed by Prince Edward Columbus Wambuzi of Bulamogi chiefdom contesting the legitimacy of William Gabula Nadiope Gabula IV as the Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom.
Subjects of the two cultural heads clashed when High Court Deputy Clerk Jesse Byaruhanga postponed the case to August 9 for a ruling on whether to continue with the case. Wambuzi’s Supporters who had filled up the courtroom celebrated the ruling saying it signaled victory for the side.
Their jubilation however evoked anger from Nadiope’s supporters resulting into a violent scuffle.
Jinja District Police Commander Felix Mugizi says eight people were arrested during the scuffle.
Wambuzi later in the afternoon secured bail for the 8 arrested persons. They are expected to go back to police on Wednesday.
Nadiope was elected by 11 out of the 12 chiefs of Busoga in 2013 to become the substantial cultural leader of Busoga.
