Private Moses Odongo Ojuka, a Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF solider attached to Bombo military barracks is in trouble for alleged gun theft. Odongo is being held by police for allegedly stealing a gun from Chawente police post in Apac district.
David Ongom Mudong, North Kyoga Region police spokesperson, says the suspect is a body guard to Col. Godfrey Okello, the coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation for Apac district. Mudong says Odongo was picked up on Tuesday evening from Aduku town board where he was found with the stolen gun.
According to Mudong, Chawenet police post lost two guns in July under unclear circumstances. He says police has been on the look-out for the missing guns since then. He explains that trouble for Odongo started when he got drunk and started narrating to his colleagues how he stole a gun from Chawenet police post on July 11th.
He says Odongo who seems to have been under the influence of alcohol went ahead and pulled out the stolen gun and showed it to his friends. Some of the people around immediately informed the Resident District Commissioner who also notified the police that acted swiftly and arrested the soldier.
