Moses Basena, manning the touchline as ‘caretaker coach’ subbed off the duo of Tadeo Lwanga and Allan Katerega at the interval.

Uganda continued to dominate possession and territory with Nelson Senkatuka denied by Nahimana Jonathan in the 69th minute. The Police FC midfielder having emerged from the bench in the second stanza.

Derrick Nsibambi then we close in the 82nd minute as his powerful effort flew over the crossbar.

Hood Kawesa had late chance to win it for the defending champions but he was denied by the Burundi shot-stopper in second-half stoppage-time as Uganda had to settle for a draw.
