Chinese renowned expert has met with the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) executive director Jolly Kaguhangire in a 4 days seminar and some companies to talk about Uganda’s industrialization at Kampala Industrial Business Park (KIBP) in Namanve under the theme “promotion of industrialization in Uganda”.

Prof. Justin Lin a former senior vice president chief economist said that industrial parks are a great way of creating employment for the population as well as boosting economic growth of a country.

“Industrial parks are also a good to reach high value markets through targeted production. With this industrial park, you have a good starting point which can be used to do better,” Lin said.

He added that China used industrial parks and export processing zones to grow its industrial sector which Uganda can also use the same model to improve on industrialism.

“We can change Uganda into a dynamic economy by first realising its competitive advantage, developing it step by step also means you can also protect the environment along the way but developing good waste management mechanisms,” Lin added.

Lin further added that regional markets are great however if you want to take that leap and grow significantly, targeting global market is the key.

From the seminar kaguhangire, Lin and other company representatives visited Roofings  Group offices in Namanve  one of the companies which hosted the seminar.

 

Roofings Group is a manufacturer of steel and other metal products and was the fast factory to be visited.

Roofings managing director Oliver Lalani said that Roofings employ about 2000 people and their revenue is $ 180 million and 30% is export revenue
