Uganda’s Democratic Party’s spokesman Kenneth Paul Kakande has commended the US elections for being free and fair.

Mr Kakande said Uganda has to learn from such peaceful elections if they are to move forward.

United States of America went to the polls on Tuesday to decide their next President.

This morning Republican Donald Trump was announced winner of the hotly contested election.

“The world was watching and monitoring the elections with keen interest. We have had various lessons from these campaigns; there was no teargas, no shooting, no imprisonment and no intimidation!” Mr Kakande said.

“There was transparency and no cases of multiple voting or rigging,” he added.

He called upon Uganda to pick a lesson or two from Americans.
