The minister for Information and Communication Technology[ICT]Hon Frank Tumwebaze has vowed to sack all employees of the Uganda Broadcasting Service [UBC] who are not competent and unqualified.
The minister warned all employees who have fake documents that they have no space in the national broadcasting service
Speaking this, the minister was at the ICT boardroom Kampala, receiving a report compiled by UBC staff under a 9 man committee. The report was presented by the committee chairman Dr Peter Mwesigye who moved with all his committee members comprising of Mr Andrew Kibaya who is the secretary, and mr William Kato Bitareho, mr Adolf Mbaine, MR Peter Gebuchi Okello,Mrs Peace Piwang, and Mr Adrek Rwabwogo who are members.
The minister however promised the committee that on Thursday this week, he shall go and pay a visit to UBC and see the way forward. However he adds that this report is all that he has been waiting for.
“When I became minister if ICT, I found the UBC issue but I could not intervene in matters where I was not invited. But now I shall go to UBC” Says the minister.
Hon. Frank Tumwebaze advised UBC staff to revamp the old news and glory that UBC once had. He gave an example of many radio stations like Sanyu FM which began broadcasting while using UBC waves. He adds that U.R.A, K.C.C.A have all restructured and are now moving forward peacefully with K.C.C.A earning over UGX100b an increment by 10% as compared to how it was before restructuring.
The minister however assured the staff with qualified documents to stay calm since no one is going to sack them.
When we asked some of the UBC journalists, many could not tell us how they feel about this whole process. Some said they were very comfortable with the idea since its development.
