Taxi drivers Resume Work after Two days of Strike
Taxi drivers in Mbale Town have today follows a meeting at Mbale Municipal council attended by the Resident District Commissioner), Regional Police Commander, Municipal leaders and taxi drivers in which it was resolved that they continue the running of the park.
Scores of passengers have been stranded in Mbale following a sit down strike by taxi operators in which they were protesting against the cancellation of their tender to run the park by the municipal council.
Mr Edward Lwanga, the head of the municipal council awarded the tender to Bugisu Taxi Operators and Owners’ Sacco (BTOOS) which made more than 300 taxi drivers under their umbrella body Taxi Drivers’ Conductors’ and Owners’ Association (TDCOA) go on strike.
Other businesses like mobile money and restaurants operating within the park have also been closed, while police remain heavily deployed.
