Earlier on, thousands of people stormed Arua airfield on Sunday afternoon as the body of the fallen Arua Municipality Member of Parliament Ibrahim Abiriga and his brother Said Kongo arrived aboard a military helicopter.
The chopper touched down at the airfield around 4.30pm but a few security officials at the site were caught unawares when a huge crowd breached the security fences at the airfield, surrounded the helicopter and the ambulances that had been brought to transport the caskets from there to a nearby primary school for public viewing.
Women could be seen throwing themselves around the helicopter as they wailed over the death of the leader. Thousands of angry men were also shouting in anger, accusing the government of failing to protect their leader from being killed.
As thousands of Arua Municipality residents lined up on the streets to receive Hon Ibrahim Abiriga’s body, a section of unruly youth intercepted the ambulance and Police and UPDF officers were overpowered and bodies removed from ambulances and carried by the unruly angry youth.
Angry youth demanded that they carry their leader up to his home.
The youth marched on the streets lifting Abriga’s body and that of his brother Said Kongo.
The rowdy crowd was chanting, “we don’t want yellow” as police and other security operatives looked on.
Abiriga’s body was airlifted from Kololo Airstrip to Arua Airstrip where a mammoth gathering was waiting to receive him.
Earlier on Sunday the fallen MP was eulogized in Parliament.
Meanwhile the Situation turned chaotic at the home of Late Hon Ibrahim Abiriga in Arua .
Motorcycle belonging to Police was burnt .A car belonging to local NGO vandalised.
Security Officers and Journalists were chased from the home .
Police officers retreated as relatives and residents took over the guard of the remains of Late Abiriga and his bodyguard .
SFC tightened security at State Lodge located near the home .
