Refugees in Uganda can now employ Ugandans
By Kiyimba Bruno
The program manager of the bible society of Uganda Mr Rubarema Justus yesterday afternoon confirmed that there are refugees who now employ the lazy Ugandans who don’t want to work.
Speaking to the press, Mr Rubarema said that among the refugees that the scripture union has served this year, many have learned how to become self employed making things like soap, petroleum jelly among others, while others have bought motor cycles which they give to Ugandans to ride as a business popularly known as “boda boda” in the name of earning a living.
The total number of refugees that the scripture union takes care of is approximately 650 people with Democratic Republic of Congo having the highest number being 400 as South Sudan have only 106 people.
The major cause of people turning into refugees is that many of these countries are affected by wars which lead them to migrate looking for greener pastures.
The criteria of getting them is an approach through churches where the churches submit the names of the refugees to the Bible Society of Uganda.
Rev. Francis Dioche from the Discipleship church, also a refugee, says that being a refugee is one of the hardest kind of life ever, you have to look for what to eat, pay house rent, and even look for school fees of children.
This gentleman survives on the paper beads and jewellery that he makes then looks for the market where to sell them.
He says that this is not a regular job since there are many people who do the same kind. He is a father of 2 children, a boy and a girl. The biggest commodity that customers over buy from him is the necklace.
He is contented with his job though only asks for more capital.
