The Uganda Police Force has said they will not rest until they bring to book whoever knocked one of their own, Kyebando Police Commander, ASP Francis Kato.
In a statement by the Force’s spokesperson, Emilian Kayima, police urge the yet to be identified driver to turn himself in to police or risk being fetched by the men in uniform.
Francis Kato, 33, was knocked dead by a yet to be identified person near his police post. According to a statement from police, Kato was returning from Kira Road, where he had been on duty.
“We hope that the driver on knowing this will turn himself in to record a statement with the police or else, we shall look for this driver with a view of investigating this killing for prosecution purposes,” Kayima’s statement reads in part.
Kayima says that the body of Francis Kato has been taken to the city mortuary for a postmortem report while the Force continues to engage with the deceased’s relatives regarding burial expenses and arrangements.
ASP Francis Kato was born in 1985 and was a specialist in ICT. He went to St Leo’s college Kyegobe and Mbarara University of Sciences and Technology where he graduated with a bachelors in ICT.
He joined the police force in 2014 and was until his death the OC of Kyebando police station.
He leaves behind a wife and two children.
