Makerere University Lecturer, Nyanzi has been arrested following her recent abusive Facebook posts against First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Emilian Kayima has confirmed the development.
Apparently, the embattled academia is in police custody.
On Thursday morning, Janet forgave Nyanzi for her offensive behaviours but with in a few hours, Nyanzi was already back on her keyboard to formulate other insults towards the Education Minister.
And as you know, even though Janet had forgiven her, police had to do its part to put Nyanzi to book for her misconduct.
Prior to this, Makerere University’s appointments board had written a letter to the university Vice-Chancellor Professor John Ddumba Ssentamu directing him to begin the process of having Dr. Stella Nyanzi suspended from her job at the Makerere Institute of Social Research.
In the letter, written by Bruce Kabaasa, the chairperson of the appointments board, Prof. Ssentamu is directed to suspend Nyanzi for continually insulting First Lady Janet Museveni, who is also the minister for education and sports-under whose docket the university falls.
The letter states ” Dr. Stella Nyanzi has continued to use social media to violate section 5.7.7 of the Makerere Human Resources Manual 2009. It is particularly regrettable, that Dr. Stella Nyanzi has made it a habit to insult, dehumanise and castigate the line Minister of Education and Sports under whose docket Makerere University’s supervision falls”.
The letter continues, ” This communication is therefore, to require you to implement the decision of the Appointments Board referred to above by suspending Dr. Stella Nyanzi from University Service with immediate effect.”
The decision to suspend Nyanzi comes on the heels of a series of recent social media posts in which Nyanzi uses vulgar prose to criticize Ms Museveni over a series of issues like the failure of government to implement a campaign promise to offer free sanitary pads to menstruating girls.
