The committee on natural resources has summoned Pastor Samuel Kakande of the Synagogue Church of All Nations to appear before the committee after it was discovered that Aqua World Uganda Limited, a company that is said to be owned by pastor Kakande was involved in illegal sand mining.
This comes after the committee made an on site inspections to Lwera last month where they established that several companies were in illegal sand including Aqua world Uganda Limited.
The Committee chairman, Alex Byarugaba noted that while the company had been granted a license for fish farming by National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), it instead resorted to sand mining and rice farming. Mr. Mutyaba failed to give a satisfactory answer, when he told the MPs that the invitation to appear before the committee did not specify what they were to present.
He explained that he had been given powers of attorney, together with Mr. Nkangi to represent Pastor Kakande. However some MPs demanded that Pastor Kakande appear in person to explain the matter, since his representatives were not aware of the illegal activities.
Florence Namayanja, Bukoto East MP, said Pastor Kakande must explain why his fish farming project was diverted to illegal sand mining, without approval of NEMA.
