After spending three months on his new term, the Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura has endorsed the current UPDF spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire to take over the office of IGP when he leaves at the end of his term, we have exclusively been informed.
Highly placed security sources told us that after President Museveni gave Kayihura the fifth term of office, he directed him to find his replacement and forward the name to him and CDF Gen David Muhoozi for discussion.
The security sources added that Kayihura failed to select a suitable police officer to take over him.
“Kayihura only had hopes in Late Kaweesi to take over his office because he had the heart for police but after his death, Kayihura could not find his replacement within police,” said a security source close to Kayihura.
The source added that Kayihura selected Brig Richard Karemire to take over the leadership of Police after his term expires in 2020.
The intelligence sources further said Kayihura after forwarding Karemire’s name to President and CDF, a meeting was held and it was accepted.
“I think Brig Karemire is mature enough and has military experience and had no enemies within the force and can be a good replacement for Gen Kayihura,” a source quoted Gen Muhoozi telling the President during a security meeting.
Sources added that after the meeting, President Museveni directed Kayihura to bring closer Karemire to police activities such that he can know how police runs.
