President Museveni has deployed a team of his trusted and blue eyed boys to handle Kampala security during the ongoing anti-age limit debate in parliament.
Among the team include Col Don Nabasa the commander of elite Special Forces command, Col Muzeyi Sabiti the commandant Military police, the commandant Chieftaincy of military intelligence CMI and CP Frank Mwesigwa the Ag director Kampala Metropolitan police.
The team is heading all other security organs including Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Team JAAT, Police Crime Intelligence Unit, Chieftaincy of military Intelligence, Internal Security Organization, Military police, Special Forces and Counter Terrorism deployed to gather intelligence and nip from the bud any possible violent riots against the lifting the age limit bill.
The bill which has received country wide protests and opposition resistance is scheduled to be tabled before the floor of parliament by the Igara West MP Raphael Magezi.
According to a security source, the team last week during the Kogikwatako protests, they established their bases at Kampala central police station where they were receiving every minute briefing from field commanders and executing instructions from their superiors.
It is indicated that the team first camped in CPS boardroom fully equipped with their communication gadgets before they shifted to Frank Mwesigwa’s office after they suspected that people were being noticed.
“They first camped in boardroom but after they moved to Mwesigwa’s office and for him he left them and went to field where he kept briefing them until the demonstration ended after deputy speaker suspended the session.” A source told us.
He added” they did not want to be noticed that they were operating from here, they got two officers and put them on the entrance door and gave them a radio call and a landline phone so if someone would come ,you would see the two officers because they were the ones receiving calls”.
It is further indicated that the team left CPS late in the evening after the city returned to calm and are closely monitoring the situation ahead of the anticipated tabling of the bill Tuesday that seeks to delete Article 102 (b) from the constitution.
The bill if passed into law will see president Museveni who will have clocked 75 years in 2021 stand again for president.
