Do president Nobert Mao has criticized President Museveni for assenting to Income Tax (Amendment) Bill 2016 which exempts MPs’ allowances from taxation and said its unfair.
President Yoweri Museveni assented to the Income Tax Amendment Bill, a decisions which, among others, effects a proposal to exempt legislator’s allowances from taxes.
The Act was assented to by President Yoweri Museveni on November 19, 2016, even though the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga had announced earlier that the bill had been returned to parliament.
Under the Act, MPs will enjoy tax exemptions on their allowances, a matter which has in recent months raised wide condemnation among civil society and members of the public.
The coordinator of Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG), Julius Mukunda have said they will challenge the enactment of the law in court, stating that the exemptions are unfair to the taxpayers. End.
