Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has snubbed interest from Arsenal and Chelsea and signed a new deal.

The new contract will see the 21-year-old remain at Old Trafford until at least June 2020, with the option of a further year.

‘I’m really delighted,’ he told MUTV. ‘Coming off the back of last season and playing games at Shrewsbury and having a good season there, to return to the biggest club in the world and put pen-to-paper again is a great achievement for me and my family. It’s another dream come true.

‘Obviously, there was a lot of interest after last season, when I’ve done myself well going out and playing but, look, United are the biggest club in the world and have been my club since day one so, of course, they are always first in my mind.

‘All my family are here with me now and it’s an honour. To come from where we started from, from nothing, to come all this way is fantastic and I’m just really delighted.’

Henderson, an England U21 international, spent last season on loan at League One Shrewsbury and was one of the stars of their promotion push, with the club eventually defeated in the play-off final. He kept 19 clean sheets and was named in the PFA League One Team of the Year.

Henderson had attracted interest from Premier League clubs including Chelsea and Arsenal, while Benfica, Roma and Olympiacos also had scouting reports on the 21-year-old goalkeeper.

But Henderson has decided to commit his future to United and is expected to continue his development by joining a Championship club on loan next season.

Stoke have been monitoring Henderson in the eventuality that Jack Butland leaves the club, while Leeds United and Bristol City are also among his admirers.
