Manchester United are confident about securing the services of Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld this summer.
Spurs are looking to offload the Belgium international, who has two years left to run on his contract, after both parties failed to agree new terms.
And, according to the Evening Standard, United are preparing to fork out £40million for the defender in a bid to further shore up their defence.

Mauricio Pochettino will then use that money to bankroll a move for Ajax starlet Matthijs de Ligt, who could set Spurs back £50m.
United came in for Alderweireld earlier this year but he is understood to have waved away their offer – which is believed to have been around £120,000 a week, a marked improvement on his current £50,000-a-week salary.
Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are all said to be interested but Jose Mourinho will to go all out to bring the defender, who is greatly enhanced his reputation since arriving in England back in 2015, to Old Trafford.
De Ligt is one of the most promising prospects to come out of Ajax’s academy in recent years
His season was, however, blighted by injury, limiting him to only 13 starts in the Premier League this season owing to a serious hamstring problem.
De Ligt, at just 18 years of age, already has five Holland caps under his belt and is former centre-back partner of Davinson Sanchez – which could aid Spurs’ pursuit.
Ajax value their prised asset at around £50m, but should Alderweireld be sold then that should ensure the price tag is no problem.
