Three have been confirmed dead and several others injured after the car they were traveling in overturned at Bukonde village in Kapyanga Sub-county in Bugiri District along the Tororo-Kampala Highway.

According to Sande Omolo, an eyewitness, the driver of the taxi which was heading to Kampala from Tororo collided with the corona vehicle as he attempted to overtake a trailer which was moving towards Bugiri.

The deceased, identified by police as; Israel Natandula, the LCIII Chairperson, Manafwa Sub-county, Jennipher Nasike and Christopher Musungu, were reportedly traveling in a taxi registration number UBA 848X from Manafwa District to Entebbe for a tour that was organized by Bubulo West MP, Rose Mutonyi Masaba.

The three died on spot. The survivors were immediately taken to Bugiri Hospital where they were visited by Ms Mutonyi.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bugiri, Godfrey Musimame, blamed the accident on speeding and cautioned drivers to stop driving recklessly lest the law catches up with them.

Relatedly, One person died instantly in another accident when a trailer KAV 119S knocked a motorcycle UDV316M along Kyabazinga Lane in Kamuli district yesterday.

According to eye witnesses, the 6:30pm accident occurred when a boda boda motorcycle carrying two passengers entered the road recklessly and rammed into an oncoming trailer that was heading to jinja district.

Police identified the deceased as Stella Angulupalu while the boda boda cyclist,only identified as Kutosi and another passenger only identified as Musisi were rushed to jinja Referral Hospital in critical condition.

Busoga South region police spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed the incident and warned boda boda riders against reckless driving.

“Boda boda riders should always endeavour to exercise caution while on the road to reduce fatalities,” Kasadha said.
