Former Oldham striker Frankie Bunn has returned to the club as first-team manager.

The 55-year-old, who scored 35 goals in 88 games for Latics between 1987 and 1990, has signed a one-year deal to succeed Richie Wellens.

Wellens left his role last week after failing to prevent Oldham slipping into League Two on the final day of the season.

Oldham owner Abdallah Lemsagam told the club’s website: ‘We are delighted to welcome Frankie Bunn to the club as first-team manager.

‘He knows the club very well from his playing time here and he has a wealth of experience working with young talent which has impressed me.

‘I believe he can take the club forward and give Boundary Park something to cheer about.’
