Attending the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Uganda Law Society at Serena Hotel Gardens in Kampala, president Museveni has urged the lawyers to work for a strong legal system because a weak one makes people take the law into their hands through acts like mob justice.
The president said that for crimes like murder, rape & defilement, he wants the culprits to be treated harshly. “I don’t support impunity. For me it’s an eye for an eye”, the president said.
The president also caution lawyers against corruption. “I get reports of lawyers cheating clients and conniving with judges. Govt will launch a crackdown”, the president warned.
The president went on to say that in the 60 years of ULS, it is NRM’s 30 years that have cemented rule of law and that Lawyers can now sleep sure of their heads on their shoulders the next day.
“I urge lawyers to understand needs of their people & serve them with an informed mind. Also take on the mantle of liberating fellow Africans”, Mr. Museveni said.
