Former presidential candidate and former FDC president Dr Kizza Besigye has called for the resignation of the inspector general of police Kale Kayihura over failure to manage security in the country.
“I think if the regime wants to salvage whatever is left of any care about this country; Mr Kayihura should be thrown out of office. Of course, if it was a more decent political system in which people have authority he would have resigned himself. He cannot manage dealing with this, he is partly the problem and I think it will do this country good for him to get out,” Dr Besigye said during a media briefing at his Katonga Road offices in Kampala.
Besigye says that after the out cry of increasing insecurity in the country with hit men terrorizing people across the country, Kayihura paraded suspects which is unacceptable in the constitution of Uganda to parade suspects who have not been proven guilty.
He also noted that president Museveni earlier also revealed that there is organized crimes within the security organs which Kayihura has failed to streamline arguing that there are suspicions that some crimes are organized by police personnel.
On Monday this week, these accusations gained more prominence after suspects paraded by Gen Kayihura openly confessed that they are backed by police officers in the planning and execution of their crimes. Police in a statement later denied the allegations.
He thus says that since Kayihura has failed to manage his office which is being given a lot of money to provide security in the country, he should be thrown out of office and have an independent inquiry in the security forces if security is to be regained in the country.
