The Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi today inspected a five-storied construction that will accommodate a specialized health facility for mental health, addiction disorders and a training wing for mental health professionals.
Speaking after inspecting the ongoing worksat Tuula, in Kawempe, the Vice President commended the proprietor for his foresightedness and assured him of Government support in establishing the facility which he said will complement Government efforts in health service delivery.
Ssekandi said that the NRM Government puts great emphasis on health as a major pillar of development which he said ensures a productive human resource necessary for achieving sustainable development adding that Government has approved the national public-private partnership health policy aimed at facilitating cooperation in health service delivery.
He said that Government has continued to expand health service delivery through a number of policies anchored on prevention of diseases through immunization, observance of good hygiene, promotion of good nutrition and curative medicine to the sick.
The Metro Health Group Chairman, Haruna Nyanzi said the investment was a family project in memory of their late father Haruna Nyanzi Bujirita will be replicated in other parts of the country.
He said that the hospital in kawempe is in third stage and requires 2billion shillings for completion and requested Government to reduce on bureaucracies and also give some taxi waivers towards medical investments and importation of medical equipment.
Haruna said that the facility will offer first class service with the latest investigative equipment to provide specialist treatment for mental health and addiction disorders especially among adolescents and children.
The function was also addressed by Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Sheihk Latif Ssebagala and the Deputy RDC Kawempe Deborah Nabukeera.
