Jose Mourinho has told Manchester United chiefs to offer Gareth Bale a huge contract worth £500,000 a week in order to try and tempt him into a transfer to Old Trafford, according to reports in the British media.

The Sun is reporting that the Red Devils still retain an interest in the Wales international despite it looking like he will stay at Real Madrid beyond the summer transfer window.

The same story says that despite publicly conceding defeat in their efforts to sign Bale, Manchester United are ready to make a £100m bid to try and lure him to Old Trafford.

And the report claims that Mourinho is convinced that an offer of £500,000-a-week wages would be enough to tempt him into a move to Manchester United this summer.

The same article says that Manchester United boss Mourinho is still privately convinced that the Red Devils will be able to conclude a deal to sign Bale before the close of the transfer window.

The story also claims that Mourinho has asked Manchester United chief Ed Woodward to fund the deal after “background checks” were made.

Bale played against Manchester United in the Red Devils’ 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup on Tuesday night.

Manchester United are currently preparing for their Premier League opener against West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
