Jose Mourinho has described a potential move to take Cristiano Ronaldo back to Manchester United as ‘a closed door’ , claiming it would not be sanctioned by Real Madrid.

Mourinho worked with Ronaldo during his time at the helm of the La Liga giants between 2010 and 2013 where the pair went on to achieve a league title and Copa del Rey triumph.

However, according to Portuguese newspaper Record, even though Ronaldo has been linked with a return to Old Trafford on a number of occasions, Mourinho believes Real president Florentino Perez would not part ways with the Portuguese superstar.

‘I believe that Real Madrid cannot sell him, it is prohibited,’ Mourinho said.

‘He has to stay until the moment they authorise him to go and play one year in America or anywhere else that he wants to enjoy. It is a closed door.’

Ronaldo, who turned 33 years old in February, has shown no signs – or intentions – of slowing down and enjoying a spell in the MLS, as he prepares for another Champions League final with Real.

Zinedine Zidane’s side face Liverpool in Kiev on May 26 as they close in on a third successive European crown. And Ronaldo has played a big part in this ambition.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 15 goals in his 12 Champions League appearances and will look to increase that tally come next Saturday’s final.

His stats alone are proof he is far from ‘past it’ and Mourinho knows that. However, he went on to re-iterate that a deal was not possible.

Asked if there was any hope of bringing the former Red Devil back to United, Mourinho added: ‘I don’t think so, but all the people know his history in Manchester, the passion they have for him and that there are players in the world who, if the clubs have the possibility of signing, will not say no.’
