Manchester United are on the verge of completing a deal for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic, sources say.

The club are hoping to announce a deal for the Serbia midfielder in the coming days and he could make his debut against Sampdoria in Dublin on Wednesday or in the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid next week.

The Serbia international has been a summer target of Jose Mourinho’s, with the 28-year-old left out of Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the Far East to concentrate on finding a new club.

Reports on Sunday claim Matic was at United’s Carrington training complex to undergo a medical ahead of a summer switch.

The selfie appears to show Matic wearing a United training top with the no.31, a shirt number last worn by Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Reports say Chelsea are holding out for a fee close to £50million after the midfielder asked to leave the Blues amid fears of a reduced role following Tiemoue Bakayoko’s arrival.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will not stand in Matic’s way as a show of gratitude for the midfielder’s efforts in the 2015 and 2017 title wins.

Jose Mourinho brought Matic back to the Premier League in 2014 during his second spell at Stamford Bridge.

Manager Jose Mourinho knows Matic well from their time together at Stamford Bridge. The 28-year-old was in Chelsea’s title-winning team in 2015 and he won another title under Antonio Conte last term.
