Antoine Griezmann will not be an Atletico Madrid player next season as he will be looking to take his career to the next level, according to BT Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas.

Atletico’s talismanic striker scored a superb brace in the Europa League final on Wednesday evening, which saw Diego Simeone’s men take advantage of a wounded Marseille side in Lyon.

Griezmann has been heavily linked with a big-money move to Barcelona in the summer and he looked to have delivered the perfect parting gift when his side hoisted the Europa League trophy at the Groupama Stadium.

Following his fine performance, the BT Sport team discussed what laid ahead for the Frenchman, as his buyout clause automatically drops from €200million (£176m) to €100m (£88m) on July 1.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jenas is confident that Griezmann will be heading for the exit at the Wanda Metropolitano as he believes it is the ‘right time’ for him to move on.

‘I think he [Griezmann] was going to go,’ Jenas said on BT Sport following Atletico’s 3-0 triumph.

‘They had that embargo put upon them which obviously pushed back Diego Costa’s time when he could actually start playing for them and I think it was that window he was possibly going to go.

‘He stayed on the basis that he loves the club and feels that he had a responsibility to help them during that tough period.

‘I don’t see him being there next year. I think it’s the right time for him to move on but what a fantastic player he has been for them and what a time to leave in terms of giving them that (Europa League trophy) as well.’

Barcelona are willing to pay a premium of €15m (£13m) in order to sign Griezmann from Atletico before the World Cup begins, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.

The Catalan giants are hoping to seal the deal before he leaves for the international tournament in Russia.

To do that, they will offer Atletico Madrid a deal worth €115m (£101m), which will be paid across several installments rather than one lump sum, as would be the case if they activated his release clause.
