Police chief Gen Kale Kayihura is furious over the rearrested suspects in the murder of the former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi currently held by Chieftaincy of military Intelligence at Nalufenya in Jinja.
According to a source, the suspects who were recently rearrested shortly after being released by Nakawa court are undergoing serious torture in Nalufenya by CMI operatives on information that they know something about the killing of Joan Namazzi Kagezi the former deputy director of public prosecution.
The suspects who include Ahmed Senfuka and Umaru Magada are all reportedly being forced to confess that they participated in the killing of Late Kagezi and Maj Kigundu.
Kayihura is reportedly complaining that the suspects are being tortured in a police facility yet his officers didn’t take part in their arrests.
“IGP called Col Kandiho and told him that his officers are torturing suspects yet it will be the police to answer once they are taken to court.”
“We can’t allow this because you are torturing them in police detention facility”. A source quoted Kayihura as saying.
Ahmed Senfuka, Umaru Magada, Ibrahim Lisa and Abdul Musa Ojegere were re-arrested shortly after Nakawa Magistrate, Noah Ssajabi, granted them bail.
Senfuka was waylaid at Spear Motors by plain clothed men armed with pistols and dragged into a waiting vehicle.
Kasingye and Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Emilian Kayima denied police involvement in the quartet’s ugly arrest.
However, the Army and Defence spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire, said the suspects had been rearrested in a joint operation by army and police on suspicion of being members of detained Jamil Mukulu’s rebel group, the Allied Democratic Force (ADF).
“CMI told us that these people were arrested on suspicion of being members of ADF. We have them in our cells but we don’t know when they will be taken to court because of the ongoing prosecutors’ industrial action ‘. Kasingye said.
