Police deployment is heightened in Kagadi district where former presidential candidate Dr Kiiza Besigye is campaigning for Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party candidates ahead elections scheduled for  August 29.

Police have approved four different rallies for Dr Kizza Besigye in the newly created district. He will also campaign in Kakumiro, another of the new districts operationalized this financial year.

Besigye started his campaigns in Kibaale, Sunday, campaigning for FDC’s Lillian Kabalega who is battling Noeline Basemera Kisembo, a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM Party.  The two are seeking to replace Robinah Nabbanja, who opted to represent the newly created Kakumiro district in Parliament and forfeited the Kibaale seat.

Kakumiro and Kagadi districts will also be voting for District leaders while Kibaale will only vote for a female legislator.

FDC fronted Peter Byahangire against NRM’s Stephen Byaruhanga and independent NRM-leaning candidate Yosia Ndibwami for the Kagadi District Chairman’s seat, while Margaret Nazziwa is facing NRM’s Jennifer Mbabazi for the parliamentary seat.

There is no FDC candidate for the Kakumiro LC V seat where competition is between NRM’s Joseph Ssentaayi and NRM-leaning independent Gerald Ssemanda Apuuli.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Publicist says that Besigye was peaceful in both statements and actions during the first leg of the two-day campaign in Kibaale.
