Gaston Nyanzima, a Comrade from the Ugandans at heart is confused. Here is his experience on electricity bills seeking for the readers advise
“CAN SOME OUT THERE COME TO RESCUE POWER USERS ESPECIALLY THOSE ON “ Yaka”? ” Gaston asks.
He continues to narrate his experience with electricity bills.
When I was using a meter, on average I was paying ugx 640 per unit. When I got connected to yaka I loaded ugx 10,000 thinking to get at least 15 units but I received 9.6 units, I did not understand this. When these units got finished I loaded again another ugx 10,000. Once again I exactly got 9.6 units then I visited the nearest UMUME office for explanation and this is what I was told
- Charge per unit is ugx 620
- VAT per unit is ugx 241
- Service fee per unit is ugx 180
Total is ugx 1041
Thus 10000/1041 = 9.6
Why then is UMEME not telling the power consumers the real truth that the cost of a unity is ugx 1041 instead of deceiving us that it is ugx 640
Note that on top of this ugx 1041 per unity there is also the mobile money charge for the network used to pay the money, for ugx 10,000 it ranges from ugx 1000 to ugx 3000
