Manchester United‘s goalkeeper David de Gea has joked about being forced out of the dressing room because of his taste in music.

The Spaniard has often been linked with a move back to his homeland, but seems to think some of his team-mates wouldn’t mind him leaving after subjecting them to his heavy metal music.

De Gea has been preparing for the World Cup with Spain and the No 1 kept a clean sheet in their final World Cup warm-up against Tunisia.

Speaking to Copa 90 about life at Old Trafford, De Gea said: ‘I always put my music on.

‘It is true that they might ban me from the dressing room one day.

‘I get a lot of criticism about my music but I always try and play them good music.

‘They like to play different kinds of music but I always play them a bit of mine.

‘I like metal and rock bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Metallica. When I put it on in the dressing room, everyone moans! Most of the other players are into hip-hop.’

De Gea has been regularly linked with a move to Real Madrid and replacing Keylor Navas – who made a clanger against England last Thursday.

Former boss Zinedine Zidane was content with Navas in goal, but a new boss may not be. President Florentino Perez is a long-term admirer of Spain’s No 1 and could reignite a pursuit for him.

For now, De Gea will be focused on the World Cup, and Spain are one of the favourites to win the prize as they did in 2010.

Spain start their campaign against Portugal on June 15, before matches against Iran and Morocco completing Group B.
