Businesses in the Rwenzori area have Star ed closing down slowly. Many shops this morning have been seen closed with doors painted with blood. This has made life of the people in the community hard.
No one can access salt, soap and even getting what to eat must be be the use of the power of the gun or panga.
According to Shaban Bantariza, Militiamen have set up camps in the Rwenzori mountains from where they train and come to attack government installations,
The Uganda Police spokesman Andrew Felix Kaweesi said the attackers intention to fight was to create a new republic on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“Many of these people including the king of Rwenzururu,Charles Wesley Numbers, were arrested when security forces stormed the king’s palace on Sunday” says Felix Kaweesa. The king is now in police custody at Nalufenya police station in Jinja officials say.
According to Charles Wesley Mumbere there are no connections between the kingdom and DRC.
“Our Bakonzo community on the border with the DR Congo has long been at loggerheads with Toro kingdom in the region.” Says Mumbere.
According to BBC, Years of clashes ended in 1982 with an agreement for more local autonomy and President Yoweri Museveni officially recognized the kingdom in 2009, but tensions have continued to simmer.
Between February and March this year, more than 50 people were killed in clashes between security forces and rebels, according to police figures.
