Businesses in Nansana froze after a serious fight between the police and taxi drivers erupted. On Monday afternoon, police shot live bullets in the air to scatter the crowds.
The incident that took place at Ganda near Hotel Jemima on Hoima road started at around 8:00am and it took the police hours to stop in.
The fight was sparked off by drivers fighting the officers in charge of Nansana town council who were stopping drivers from parking on the road.
This made the drivers furious and started blocking roads as well as putting fire in the middle of the roads.
According to the DPC of Nansana, Afande Tadeus Tashobya, the drivers are supposed to use the park to wait for passengers. He said that by doing so, they would cut the traffic jam which comes as a result.
We have managed to stop the act and those arrested shall be taken to court and those responsible shall be dealt with by the law,” Tashobya said.
