Bart Katurebe has sworn in 29 ASP Prison officers as ‘Justices of Peace’ to help reduce the case burden.
Chief Justice Bart Katureebe warned the new Judicial Service Commission JSC to scrutinise carefully complaints against judicial officers.
The swearing in comes barely two months, in October, when Chief Justice Bart Katureebe launched a ten member committee to manage case backlog in all courts of judicature and come up with recommendations on how to manage and clear case backlog.
The appointment of the committee followed a court census report that showed that over 114, 809 cases pending in courts with the longest spending ten years within the system.
The same report also revealed the Court of Appeal had the lowest disposal rate of cases and yet an improvement was been recorded in the lower magistrate courts.
Soon after his appointment, Katureebe disclosed how the soaring case backlog was giving him sleepless nights adding that since his appointment he has been doing everything possible to press parliament, the executive and the development partners to increase the money allocated to the judiciary to address the problem.
